中国国航和国泰计划成立的合资货运航空公司已获得所有相关政府机构的批准,目前正在处理有关文件及细节安排,预计将在一个月后开始正式运营。

该合资公司已拥有7架货机,今年底会增至12架,其中国泰将会为合资公司提供4架波音改装货机。该合资公司将发展成扎根内地东部与北部的出色的本土货运航空公司,同时还将凭着庞大的机队规模与一定的市场份额,为欧洲、北美乃至日本、韩国及台湾等亚洲国家和地区直接提供货运服务。

目前国泰每周运作15至16班往来上海-香港的货运航班,再经香港往返北美及欧洲等地。之所以要成立合资货运公司,是由于目前上海缺乏一家能直接提供更具成本效益及优质服务的强大本土航空公司。
国泰航空和国航在2009年2月公告成立合资货运航空公司,将以目前的国航全资子公司-中国国际货运航空有限公司作为合资平台。交易完成后,国航持有国货航51%股权,国泰将通过直接认购国货航25%的股本权益,以及通过向一个海外信托公司提供贷款的回报,持有国货航另外24%权益。

根据《中国经济新闻》2010年的报道,中国国际航空股份有限公司与国泰航空有限公司日前在北京就成立共同拥有的货运航空公司签署框架协议。  根据协议,两家公司将以目前的国航全资子公司——中国国际货运航空有限公司(简称国货航)作为合资平台。交易完成后, 国货航将继续为国航的附属公司, 国航持有国货51%的股权, 国泰集团将通过直接认购国货航25%的股本权益, 以及通过向一个海外信托公司提供贷款的回报持有国货航另外24%的经济权益。国泰航空集团在此项合资交易的总投资额为16.69亿元人民币。 

国航和国泰在2006年6月8日建立交叉持股的战略合作关系,国航实现对国泰航空的直接战略投资,同时国泰也增加了其在国航的战略投资并恢复全资持有港龙航空。在同时签署的运营协议中, 双方首次明确表示在上海组建货运合资公司的意向。

The plan of Air China and Cathay Pacific to set up a joint venture cargo airline has received approval from all relevant government agencies, and they are currently processing the relevant documents and details of the arrangements, which is expected to begin formal operations in a month.

The joint venture already has seven cargo planes and will increase to 12 by the end of this year, including that Cathay Pacific will provide four Boeing Converted Freighter for the joint venture. The joint venture will develop into a domestic cargo airlines rooted in the east and north of the mainland excellent, while also providing direct cargo services in Europe, North America, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and other Asian countries and regions relying on a large fleet size and a certain market share.

Cathay Pacific currently operates 15 to 16 classes of cargo flights per week between Shanghai - Hong Kong and return from North America and Europe via Hong Kong. The reason to set up a cargo joint venture is the current lack of a direct service to provide more cost-effective and powerful local airlines in Shanghai.

Cathay Pacific and Air China announced a joint venture cargo airline in February 2009, and would present a wholly owned subsidiary of Air China - Air China Cargo Co., Ltd. as a joint platform. After completion of the transaction, Air China would hold 51% stake in Air China Cargo, and Cathay Pacific would subscribe for 25% direct equity interest in Air China Cargo, and by providing loans to a foreign trust returns to hold an additional 24% interest in Air China Cargo.

According to "China Economic News" reported in 2010, air China Limited and Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. Recently signed a framework agreement on jointly launching a cargo airlines company in Beijing. According to the agreement, the two companies will take Air China Cargo, a whole capital subsidiary of Air China as their joint venture platform. After the transaction, Air China Cargo will go on remaining a subsidiary of Air China, Air China will hold 51% of the stake, while Cathay Pacific will directly purchase 25% of the equity capital, and get another 24% of the equity of Air China Cargo as its reward for offering loans to an overseas credit company. Total investment of the Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd. in this JV transaction will be RMB1.669 billion. Air China and Cathay Pacific established strategic cooperation relation of holding stocks of each other on June 8, 2006: Air China realized direct strategic investment in Cathay Pacific; while Cathay Pacific increased its strategic investment in Air China and restored whole capital holding of Dragon air. In the operation agreement signed simultaneously, the two companies for the first time stated clearly the intention of launching cargo JV in Shanghai.

Air China and Cathay Pacific announced the establishment of cross-holdings of strategic partnership on June 8, 2006. Air China achieved a direct strategic investment on Cathay Pacific, while Cathay Pacific has also increased its strategic investment in Air China and wholly owned Dragon air as for the recovery. In the operation agreement signed at the same time, the two parties for the first time made clear the intention of formation of cargo joint venture in Shanghai.
