据商务部2011年1月发布的数据显示，全国新设立外商投资企业2243家,同比增长20.2%;而相较之下，2009年11月全国新设立外商投资企业2,437家,同比增长9.97%。可见同比增长率持续上升。实际使用外资金额100.3亿美元,同比增长23.4%。相比较2009年11月中国实际使用外资金额70.23亿美元且同比增长31.97%的数据来看，增长了约42%。这也是自2008年8月以来，中国实际使用外资金额的持续增长。
2011年1月吸引外资的特点主要表现在：
服务业实际使用外资金额46.9亿美元,同比增长31.8%,占同期全国总量的46.8%，增幅高于全国平均水平。
西部地区吸收外资5.1亿美元,同比增长81.1%，增速远高于东部地区实际使用外资金额89.8亿美元,同比增长23%；中部地区实际使用外资金额5.4亿美元,同比下降2%。
农、林、牧、渔业实际使用外资金额1.4亿美元,同比增长15.2%；制造业实际使用外资金额47亿美元,同比增长18.9%。
亚洲十国/地区对华投资明显增加。今年1月,香港、澳门、台湾省、日本、菲律宾、泰国、马来西亚、新加坡、印度尼西亚和韩国等亚洲十国/地区对华投资新设立企业1777家,同比增长24.4%,实际投入外资金额85.2亿美元,同比增长32.4%。
相对于2009年11月吸引外资呈现的特点，如外资从地区结构看主要靠江苏、广东、辽宁以及重庆等地拉动增长；美国和欧盟对中国投资分别下降38%；日本和东盟10国对华投资同比增长近60%来看，2011年1月外资投资地区从东南部转向西部，而亚洲地区仍然是投资的主要方向。
