在2010年的人口普查中，居住在中国境内并接受普查登记的香港特别行政区居民234829人、澳门特别行政区居民21201人、台湾地区居民170283人，外籍人员593832人，合计1020145人。
按来中国的目的区分，上述人员中，以商务为目的204962人；以就业为目的201955人；以学习为目的202482人；以定居为目的186648人；以探亲为目的100113人；其他目的的123985人。
如果按居住地分，人数排在前十位的地区是：广东省316138人，上海市208602人，北京市107445人，江苏省64177人，福建省62564人，云南省47396人，浙江省36380人，山东省33098人，辽宁省23834人，广西壮族自治区23445人。居住在其他省（区、市）的97066人。
按国籍分，在中国境内居住的外籍人员数量排在前十位的国家是：韩国120750人，美国71493人，日本66159人，缅甸39776人，越南36205人，加拿大19990人，法国15087人，印度15051人，德国14446人，澳大利亚13286人。在我国境内居住的其他国家人员181589人。
上述人员指在我中国境内居住三个月以上或能够确定将居住三个月以上的港澳台居民和外籍人员，但不包括出差、旅游等在境内短期停留的港澳台居民和外籍人员。“境内”指的是中国海关关境以内，不包含港澳台地区。
另外，中国全年国内出游人数达21.0亿人次，比上年增长10.6%；中国国内旅游收入12580亿元，增长23.5%。入境旅游人数13376万人次，增长5.8%。其中，外国人2613万人次，增长19.1%；香港、澳门和台湾同胞10764万人次，增长3.0%。国际旅游外汇收入458亿美元，增长15.5%。国内居民出境人数达5739万人次，增长20.4%。其中因私出境5151万人次，增长22.0%，占出境人数的89.8%。
In the 2010 population census, the number of people who lived in China and accepted the census registration was: 234,829 people from Hong Kong SAR (Special Administrative Region), 21,201 from Macau SAR, 170,283 from Taiwan, 593,832foreigners; the total number was 1,020,145.
Among the above figure, there were 605,821 male and 414,324 female.
If we divide the above people according to their purposes of coming to China, 204,962 people came for business; 201,955 came for employment; 202,482 came for study;186,648 came for settlement; 100,113 came for visiting relatives;123 985 came for other purposes.
If we divide the population by residence, the top ten areas are: Guangdong with 316,138 people, Shanghai with 208,602 people, Beijing with 107,445 people, Jiangsu Province with 64,117 people, Fujian Province with 62,564 people, Yunnan Province with 47,396 people, Zhejiang Province with 36,380 people, Shandong Province with 33,098 people, Liaoning Province with 23,834 people, Guangxi Zhuang Zu Autonomous Region with 23445 people; other provinces (regions and municipalities) with 97,066 people.
By the composition of nationality, the top ten countries whose residents live in China are: South Korea with 120,750, the United States with 71,493, Japan with 66,159, Burma with 39,776 people, Vietnam with 36,205, Canada with 19,990, France with 15,087 people, India with 15,051 people, Germany with 14,446, Australia with13,286 people. There are 181,589 people live in China from other countries.
The above people refers to the people from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and foreign countries who live in China for more than three months or are determined to live for more than three months; but it does not include people from Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan and foreign countries stay in China for a short period for business, travel. The territory refers to the regions within China's customs territory, but it does not include Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan.
In addition, China's annual number of people who traveled abroad was 2.1 billion, rose 10.6% from last year; China's domestic tourism revenue was 1258 billion yuan, rose 23.5%. The number of tourists entered China’s border was 133760 thousand, rose 5.8%. Among them, the number of foreigners was 26,130,000, increased 19.1%; the number of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan compatriots was 107,640 thousand, rose 3.0%. The international tourism foreign currency revenues were $45.8 billion, surged 15.5%. The number of domestic residents travelled abroad was 57390 thousand, rose 20.4%. Among them, the number of people travelled for their own purposes was 51510 thousand, increased 22.0%, accounting for 89.8% of the total people went abroad.
